While we have known for a very long time that there are scammers out there just waiting to scam rentals, we’ve never seen it this bad. We even had a situation where the scammer used the membership number to penetrate and post a fake rental on our members only forum within our website. Therefore, we the Administrators of our Facebook pages and this Forum, do hereby suggest to you:
1. Do NOT give your member number out to anyone.
2. Do NOT share or make your email address public.
3. When you verify ownership with the club, include not only name/week #, but the email address that the person has used to contact you. Often they omit a letter or symbol to make it appear to be the one of the actual owner.
4. Only do private rentals with owners you know.
5. If the name of the owner shows up on Facebook, send the owner a private message confirming it was the owner who is renting out the unit.
We continue to recommend placing your rentals with the club rental program. We also recommend renting through the club via our website. This not only keeps you secure but provides the club with income.
