Since losing nearly 50 chickees for the second time in 2 years, the Board decided on umbrellas as a replacement since they would be able to be removed quickly and stored if a surge would happen again. The plan for now is to relocate the remaining chickees to one side of the beach and the umbrellas to the other side so the beach doesn’t look disorganized and has a more aestecial appeal. Have you seen the umbrellas? They are sturdy and have a table with 4 cup holders and the span is slightly larger than the chickees were. Hooks have been added so you will have a place for a light bag. These are the same umbrellas used at the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in Aruba if you are familiar with those. Thank you for the question.

The “6 month rule” only applies to certain countries. Aruba is not one of them. However, I did hear a story once where due to an emergency an Aruba flight was diverted to a country in South America and someone had a passport that was about to expire within 6 months and had a difficult time exiting the country.

    Hello Joyce,
On the page where you fill out the Guest of Owner Authorization form you will notice a little lock in the URL bar. When you see that it on any web page that means the page is secure.

Before you type your card details into a website, ensure that the site is secure. Look out for a small padlock symbol in the address bar (or elsewhere in your browser window) and a web address beginning with https:// (the s stands for ‘secure’).

Check the SSL Certificate. Look at the URL of the website. If it begins with “https” instead of “http” it means the site is secured using an SSL Certificate (the s stands for secure). SSL Certificates secure all of your data as it is passed from your browser to the website’s server.

Ricardo recently renewed the lease for another 5 years. Ricardo has handed over the day to day management of the restaurant to his sister Anky so that he could concentrate more on the management and operation of his new restaurant Oak.
As for Ricardo’s staff as far as we know they will remain the same.

    Dear owners,

It is a true honor to inform you that, after much work and perseverance, the work on the foundation at the East-wing ocean front units has been completed and in record time. The Government Department of Building & Infrastructure officials came by to inspect the work this afternoon where they gave us the green light so we are happy to announce that our East-wing ocean front units are back in service as of this weekend.

    Dear Owners,

Your Board of Directors would like to thank you for your support and cooperation we have received after the impact of the storm to our club.

We have signed a contract to begin necessary repairs on our East Wing section and it will be done in two phases.

Phase 1 : Foundation Repair to our East Wing Beach Front units.

We will begin Monday October 15th at 8:00am and continue throughout the upcoming weeks. We are anticipating a two week completion time frame for phase 1 and then we will need government approval before we can place these units back into service.

Phase 2 : Placing of vinyl boards to help protect the building structure on our East Wing.

Unfortunately we cannot proceed with phase 2 immediately because we need to have the approval of the local Department of Buildings and Infrastructure, D.O.W. first.

We will inform all owners when we are ready to begin with this phase, please rest assured that your Board of Directors and Management are doing all in their power to get this phase done as soon as possible.

    Beach Update:

At the moment only the beach on the West Wing can be used at this time. Our Maintenance Department will be standing up the existing palapas that are down due to the storm and are doing cleanup of the beach.

The reason the address changed was because Sabadell United Bank switched to Iberia Bank.

We have been owners for 35 years and yes, I have seen the beach with all sand extend out quite far and no rocks at all. I have also seen it with rocks running the length of the property from Manchebo to Divi. That year that for 3 weeks there was no access to the ocean and it was so rough that those that went in were in immediate danger. The next year the rocks were covered again and water was calm.

I’ve never seen it come back as fast and it goes. Last year in the middle of the night the ocean chewed away at the beach and there was a 6-8 ft drop into the water. The huts were marked off with caution tape so no now would fall off.

Three weeks ago when we were there only a few rocks were showing at the east wing (long wing) water was calm and the beach was nice.

From the week 20 2018 member meeting minutes posted on this page:
Member: Perruccio, Doren Michael #121: If you walk a little further down the beach to the Costa Linda they don’t have any rocks and their beach is huge, why is that?
Farida: Because we are located right in the turn of the Island. The beach comes and goes, not so long ago all those exposed rocks were covered with white sand.

Member: How long have those rocks been there?
Farida: A part of the rocks were put in when the building was being built and about 20 years ago more rocks were added. It because of those rocks we are protected. The previous Government had plans to work together with engineers from Holland to come up with something like an outer barrier that would stretch from the Divi Resort up to the high-rise area and help protect our beaches. We now have a new Government so we will have to wait and see what they will decide to do.

From the week 34 2018 member meeting minutes posted on this page:
Member: Many of us come down here because of the beach and I’ve noticed for the last couple of years there has been some erosion of the beach area. I also see some rock plantings as well which makes it hazardous when you go into the water and we’ve experienced it ourselves that you can get injured. Are there any plans to replace the beach sand? Is that our responsibility or the Government’s?
Mr. Foley: The beach belongs to the Government. The rocks have always been there, they were just covered up by the sand. When I first came here you could’ve walked at least 50 feet before you got to the ocean over by the East-wing section and it has been eroding over a period of time. I have also woken up in the morning and the rockswould be covered, that’s how Mother Nature works.
We had a terrible storm here a couple of years ago and we lost the entire beach including 56 chickees that had to be replaced. That was the only time, that I could remember, that we got sand from the Government but on a general basis we do not get involved with the beach other than if it’s a treacherous/hazardous condition we would pay to bring in sand.

Same member: Isn’t it the Board’s responsibility to talk to the Government about replacing the sand?
Mr. Foley: We had such a difficult time getting them to give us 56 tons of sand after a horrendous storm that I believe they won’t even listen to us and give us just one truck load of sand. We’ll look at the beach later today and if it’s that hazardous we’ll buy the sand.

Kris, I don’t imagine they will but can’t say for certain. Those club owned weeks will be needed next year for the upcoming refurbishment to relocate and accommodate owners when their units are being worked on.
